Google Pixel 2 XL vs. Apple iPhone X: What’s your choice?

Both Pixel 2 XL and iPhone X are outstanding smartphones and it will be fascinating once both these hit the consumer market. Buyers will have to wait for few more weeks to get their hands on either of these competitive phones.


The iPhone X has aesthetically reduced bezels giving you more screen space. It also has glass on the back along with dual lens camera which is vertically mounted. Apple got rid of the home button and made way for the facial recognition technology to unlock your iPhone.

Compared to iPhone X, Pixel 2 XL has more bezels around the screen and it also has a metallic body. It has a fingerprint scanner at the back, Google claims that this is the fastest Smartphone fingerprint scanner. There is single camera on each of  the front and back side.

Both phones have removed the audio jack. While the iPhone X is available in 2 colors: Space Grey and Silver. The Pixel 2 XL comes in Just Black or Black & White.

Both phones have IP67 rating which means they are dust and water resistant. Pixel 2 XL comes with Gorilla glass protection while Apple claims that iPhone X will have the protection of the strongest glass.


Pixel 2 XL comes in 6 inch pOLED display and the resolution is 2880×1440 with a pixel density of 538ppi. The iPhone X comes in 5.8 inches with standard AMOLED display and the resolution is 2435 x 1125 with 458ppi.

There isn’t much difference here but Pixel 2 XL is better equipped for virtual reality

Operating System

Both phones run the latest version of respective software. Pixel 2 XL runs on Android Oreo and iPhone runs iOS 11. Pixel 2 XL runs on Snapdragon 835 and 4GB of RAM while iPhone is believed to have 3GB RAM and A11 Bionic chip.

Virtual Assistants

Pixel 2 XL comes with Google Assistant which continues to improve as it learns from users. Apple has its very own Siri which is efficient but not at as much as compared to Google’s prowess in AI . You can squeeze the sides of Pixel 2 XL to launch Google Assistant .


The Pixel 2 XL has a 12.2MP rear camera with optical & electronic image stabilization and an f/1.8 aperture. The front-facing camera is 8MP with  f/2.4 aperture. The iPhone X has a 12MP rear-camera, and there is a second one paired with it. One has a wide-angle lens with an aperture of  f1/1.8, and the other has a telephoto lens with an aperture of f/2.4 . It provides optical image stabilization.

Apple’s cameras are a class apart but still last year Google’s Pixel and Pixel XL earned the highest DxOMark score for a Smartphone with a camera . Pixel 2 XL ‘s camera has an even higher score setting new record for its competitors.

Both phones support Augmented Reality but Apple’s Animoji is fun as special emoticons mirror user’s face expressions and movements.


The Pixel 2 XL has 3520mAh battery that Google says can give you 7 hours of battery life in just 15 minutes of charging. Apple’s iPhone X is rumored to support a  2716mAh battery with wireless charging support.


Pixel 2 XL is priced at $849 for 64GB and also comes with a Google Home mini for a limited time. The iPhone X is pretty expensive at $999 for 64GB.

Apple iPhone X has the aesthetics but is expensive while Google Pixel 2 XL has the power of AI and is comparatively cheaper, the choice is largely based on the OS that you are comfortable with.
