Seagate has launched a new line up of hard drives up to the capacity of 10TB, dubbed as the Guardian Series. The series consists of three hard drive models such as BarraCuda, IronWolf and SkyHawk.
These high-capacity drives are resurrected for consumer and small business category and are meant for laptops, desktops, network-attached storage (NAS) and surveillance systems.
Out of the three models, BarraCuda is designed for desktops, the IronWolf for NAS applications and the SkyHawk for video surveillance systems.
The Seagate’s popular BarraCuda brand comes with a spindle speed ranging from 5,900rpm to 7,200rpm and capacities ranging from 500GB to 10TB.
The drives also come with 16GB to 64GB of DRAM cache, depending on the overall capacity. BarraCuda is being offered in 2.5-inch for laptops, which is 7mm thick, small enough for ultrathin notebooks; it offers up to 2TB of capacity. Also, the drive comes in 3.5-inch desktop sizes.
Barracuda is meant for desktop storage, all-in-one storage, home servers, DAS devices. It carries a workload rating of 300TB/year. It has storage capacities of 500GB, 1TB, 2TB, 3TB and 4TB, which makes it a highly recommended product for home servers and desktops with maximum storage requirement.
